When a major client asked DUTCH WASTE to align with new European sustainability regulations, the company, a specialist in industrial cleaning and environmental technology, saw an opportunity. Instead of treating sustainability as a set of separate actions, they decided to embed it in their business operations. Together with Eevery, DUTCH WASTE began a journey to map their impact and identify clear areas for improvement.

For over 30 years, DUTCH WASTE has been active in maritime and industrial cleaning. The company was formed through several mergers and acquisitions and continues to grow by investing in new activities and technologies. Two years ago, co-owner Jeroen Schweig joined to further expand the business together with his partner.
“Sustainability was never really a structured topic for us,” Jeroen explains. “We did things like electric cars and solar panel research, but without a plan or full overview. When our client asked us about sustainability, we realised we needed to get organised.”
Because of its growth and the wide range of activities, DUTCH WASTE lacked a clear view of its overall impact. How were they performing on environmental, social and governance topics? Which improvements were relevant and realistic? Figuring it out on their own proved complex, and a large consultancy project did not meet the needs of an SME.
That is when Eevery came into the picture. Together, they completed the full ESG assessment. In a series of sessions, DUTCH WASTE gained valuable insights and turned them into practical results:
“We came across topics we had never thought of before,” says Jeroen. “It is great that you do not have to do it alone. With Eevery, you go through the whole process together and end up with a clear picture of where you stand and how to move forward.”
The ESG assessment revealed several opportunities. For example, DUCTH WASTE is now exploring ways to reuse the water released during ship cleaning rather than disposing of it. This could reduce water consumption, transport and CO₂ emissions.
The company also plans to map its CO₂ footprint and strengthen internal structure and transparency, for example, by introducing a code of conduct and whistleblower policy.
With the insights from the ESG report, DUTCH WASTE is now working on new sustainability goals. “This process has really given us clarity,” says Jeroen. “We now know where we stand and which improvements to focus on. It gives us direction for our next steps.”
